It is expected that the Project will produce the following results till February 29, 2020:
(a) increase in capacity of law enforcement agencies, victim support organizations, specialised lawyers for crime victims, and other stakeholders engaged in victims’ support through provision of:
i. expanded and generalized knowledge on European best and promising practices relevant to victim referral mechanisms, including secure communication channels for those referrals, assessing support needs of victims, and provision of information to victims. The collection of relevant European practices as well as their introduction to the stakeholders Union-wide allows expecting that the knowledge generated by the Project will be reconsidered by victim’ support agencies and will lead to enhancement of their routine activities;
ii. expanded and systematized knowledge on local and national provision of victims’ support in the partner countries of Italy, Lithuania, Portugal and Romania. The Project will determine to what extent and how referral, assessment and information provision already occurs within victim support organisations and the police, what factors are most relevant to establishing and improving the systems locally and nationally, including legal and practical gaps and limitations and existing good practices;
iii. common practical tools which may be used in any State as a starting point for establishing or improving their systems of victim referral mechanisms, including secure communication channels for those referrals, assessing support needs of victims, and provision of information to victims. The tools will be designed to allow for easy conversion into the national situation. Partners will subsequently adapt those practical tools to their national situation to either support engagement processes or to implement the new processes.
(b) better assurance that victims of crime in Lithuania, Romania, Italy and Portugal have access to and are offered tailored victim support services suited to their needs. Strengthening capacity of law enforcement agencies, victim support organizations, specialised lawyers for crime victims, and other stakeholders engaged in victims’ support will enable provision of more sensitive, effective, and helpful support to victims of crime and their family members. Therefore, victims of crime and their family members will be the final beneficiaries of the Project.
